Sorry! I forgot to post…Again.

June 24, 2010

…So it’s been a good 9 months since I’ve posted on this blog, and if you guys knew how apologetic I was about this…I have no words to describe it, really. I feel downright awful about it. I wish I’d managed to keep up with it a little better, but I know that what’s in the past is in the past, I’ve done this 3 seasons now…but you know, eventually I will get the hang of it, I promise.

It’s not even really about me being too busy at college. I’m not. To be honest, I have absolutely heaps of free time. I think what got into me was the psychology of having the radio show. I became known as the ‘hockey expert’ in the sports department at my college radio station, WRUB.ORG. Now if you’ve read the blog or know anything about me whatsoever, you know that I don’t deserve this great honor. I really don’t. I’ve been a fan for just 3 years (*Nyeh?*) and although I watch about 20 games a week, I’m not the best commentator. But my director saw something in me, and gave me that title, Woohoo!

Actually a lot of people saw something in me, because after my rookie season on the radio station the board of directors gave me the title of DJ of the year. WHATTT?

I don’t know where that came from either. But it happened! And boy you bet your ass that I was excited. I didn’t really even fathom that I’d done that good in the radio booth. Let’s be honest, if you’ve seen PJ&B TV, you know I’m not really the most eloquent speaker. I fumble, I cuss, I wave my arms around like a monkey.

Oh and let’s not forget how prone I am to rambling. I like talking about things that don’t matter in the real world.

But I don’t want this blog to just slip into the blogs of years passed and failures. I refuse to let my baby go down in smoke like that!

So…let’s start out on a new leaf. Congrats to the 2010 Stanley cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks. The shot from Kane was an illustrated moment of total perfection. And no one knew what in God’s name was going on…but they were excited about it.

Sounds like two virgins hitting the sack. But after 49 years…it kind of equates to that.

I missed being goofy like that. The FCC never lets me have fun.

Tonight was the NHL awards, and can you blame me, all I wanted was to see Fern (Ryan Miller, I haven’t used that name in what seems like forever). Take home a few trophies. And boy, did he make me proud, taking home his much deserved Vezina and NHL Foundation awards for best goaltender and civic player in his community.

Civic means generous/charity…not a Honda.

And we know how I feel about Tyler Myers. He’s a sabre. He had to take home the calder.

Before the show I posted on my youtube accounts (personal and PJ&B TV) a little predictions (and…’I hope you forgive me’) video post.

And for a few players, my predictions were pretty set. For any of the awards featuring the 3 kings, Henrik Sedin, Alex Ovechkin, and Sidney Crosby, I picked Henrik.

Henrik took home the Hart Trophy and Art Ross trophy, which are really two trophies for essentially the same victory, highest points scorer and the league MVP. Good for you Henrik. You did your country proud. According to NHL. Com Henrik is just the second Swede behind the infalliable Peter Forsberg to win the Hart trophy.

Ovechkin DID get something, The Ted Lindsay award.

Sidney Crosby has a habit of stealing things (Winter Classic Victories…Gold Medals) from Ryan Miller. Rather than Ry sweeping his nominations, 3 for 3, Crosby beat him out for the Mark Messier Leadership award (and totally kissed Messier’s ass on receiving it.)

Did anyone doubt that Duncan Keef …err, Teeth…I mean…Keith (no…that didn’t go too far.) would get the Norris trophy? Really, losing his two (er…four…six?) front teeth in the Stanley cup playoffs, if the guy didn’t get it, someone would freak the fuck out. And you’d hear me screaming about it all the way from New Hampshire.

I put my money on Datsyuk getting the Lady Byng trophy but was pleasantly surprised when it changed hands to a much different player. Little Martin St. Louis took home the big (in comparison) trophy!

Pavel wasn’t left empty handed, The Selke trophy (which I can’t pronounce for the life of me) for the most defensive forward went to the Russian. Although I hadn’t pegged him for it initially, seeing the highlights of his steals…he robs better than the hamburgler…and I’m not just saying that!

And two for Pheonix. This poor team. I hope it never moves just because I feel so bad for this team to come out of nothing and give an amazing go of things in the post season. For more amazing contributions and a steadfast participation in civic duty (I’m enriching your vocabularies here), Shane Doan took the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. The Jack Adams trophy for best coach went to Dave Tippet, who…for taking his team as far as he did…good for him.

The bill Masterton trophy went with tears, to Jose Theodore. I think this is my favorite trophy now. I’ve always loved the Calder and Vezina…and I don’t think I’ll ever stop. But the Masterton trophy goes to a player who battled through tragedy and overcame all odds. After the death of his son due to complications of a pre-mature birth, Jose Theodore came through it and started a foundation for a NICU center. I’m a total baby…this story made me want to cry.

And as a premie myself…thanks Jose…for kind of being on my side, despite the slanderous things I said about you.

But really…my highlight was seeing Ryan take home that Vezina. I screamed…got yelled at…scared my dogs…but dude…it was so worth it.

The NHL Draft is just around the corner (a day away) and expect great things. I will post a blog if it kills me…and hopefully I’ll get a new episode of PJ&B TV out there as well.
And If you have any interest in what I was up to during my hiatus. Check out the podcasts for my radio show, THE NET!
